Paul Zinman is President and Chief Engineer of SoundByte Productions, Inc., an audio production/post-production company based in New York City. He produces and engineers recordings of orchestras and chamber ensembles, specializing in contemporary music. His work is featured on the Bridge, CRI, EMI, Mode, New World, Nonesuch, Sony Classical and Teldec labels. A number of these recordings have been nominated for or won Grammy awards. Recent work has taken him to London, Prague and Singapore.





EMPLOYMENT HISTORY




SoundByte Productions, Inc.. 1994-present: President, producer, and chief recording and mastering engineer. Orchestral and chamber music recording; editing, mixing and mastering.


New York University. 1993-2000: Adjunct faculty, School of Education, Department of Music. Instructor for Concert Recording I, II and III.


New York Digital Recording. 1989-1993: Chief recording and mastering engineer. Employed since 1984 on a free-lance basis. Orchestral and chamber music recording; editing, mixing and mastering; audio-for-video. Supervised construction of new digital mastering studio complex in 1992.

Marlboro Music Festival. 1988-present: Recording Engineer and "Music From Marlboro" radio series Music Producer. 1981-1984: Assistant recording engineer. 1980: Administrative assistant. Recording of chamber music and orchestral concerts for radio broadcast, record release, and study by participant musicians. Archives are housed at the Library of Congress. Recently supervised studio upgrades, including recording to high resolution sound files, creation of a database for integrated management of media assets, CD duplication, and work flow scheduling, and complete replacement of studio cabling and microphone rigging as part of concert hall stage renovation.

Synesthetics, Inc. 1985-88: Chief Audio Engineer. Supervised construction and operation of recording, synthesis and audio-for-video studio for multi-media services company. Production and recording of pop, commercial, and experimental music.

Vanguard Recording Society (Vanguard Records). 1984-1986: Recording engineer. Head of Quality Control. Classical, pop, and jazz recording. Editing, mixing and mastering. Restoration and remastering for CD release of archival recordings from mono, stereo, three-track, and multi-track sources.

Free-lance work. Recording engineering for numerous clients, including Nonesuch Records, Bridge Records and Virgin Records. Production for New World Records, CRI, GunMar Records and the American Music Theatre Festival. Sound design and live sound reinforcement for Tod Machover, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the New York New Music Ensemble.
